Our club president, Tim Downey, was interviewed at the 2022 Homebrew Con in Pittsburgh PA. Poured in PA's video does a great job of showing the broad spectrum of people the homebrewing craft attracts. Tim covers just who is the BOMB, what attracted him to homebrewing and what the club has to offer. You can watch the full video below.
The polls are closed and the memberships have spoken. Your new board members for 2023 are as follows:
Tim Downey - President Chris Noll - Vice President Mike Duprez - Treasurer Mat Kelly - Secretary Adam Ritter - Activities Director Dave Bill - Public Relations Director Rich Sparano - BOMBardier If you have questions or wish to contact a board member, use the Contact Us form on the About Us page or attend a board meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 7p at the Sterling Pig. The BOMB has the opportunity to pour at 2023 Kennett Winterfest on February 25th. This is a really fun opportunity to share your beer with others and receive great feedback. We have four tickets available for anyone who volunteers to brew/pour, and we may be able to get 1-2 more depending on interest. Please consider participating and representing our club.
Send a note to the board to let us know you want to volunteer. We will not be brewing onsite, but if you'd be willing to bring some of your gear and discuss brewing basics, that would be great. We know you... You love good beer, you like to talk about beer and you probably either brew your own or want to learn...or just want to hang out with brewers who do.
Well then...we have the club for you!. Become a BOMB member today and get access to other people who are crazy about great beer like you. You'll have an opportunity to learn more about the art of brewing & fermentation at our meetings and events. In addition, you'll get access to great perks of being a member. You can become a member today for about the price of a 12 pack of your favorite craft beer. So what are you waiting for??? On December 9th, the BOMB held their 2022 Holiday Party at the Rose Tree Fire Company in Media, PA. Attendees enjoyed a catered dinner, craft beer and home brews. In addition, there was a White Elephant gift swap that involved some friendly sniping of gifts. The BOMB recognized Andy Poole's service on the board of directors as he is stepping aside at the end of this year so he could focus on other things...like brewing more beer!
The competition pack was close the entire year, but on Thursday night, there would be only one BOMBer that would earn the 2022 bragging rights of the BOMBing Run champion. Alex Crowe is the 2022 BOMBing Run champion. His Helles entry received 55 votes and a score of 12 to take 1st place over all in the competition. Rounding out the top 3 for 2022 are 2nd place Jake Wilson and 3rd place Kevin Harkness. In the round, Alex won 1st place followed Jason Sturgeon (2nd place) and Adam Ritter (3rd place). Full results of the round and competition can be viewed here. Winners of this round and the competition finalists received prizes from our sponsors Five Star Chemicals, InkBird and Imperial Yeast. in addition to the prizes mentioned, the 2022 winners have been invited by James Baker, Head Brewer at 'Bout the Hops Brewing in Mount Laurel, NJ to brew at the brewery. The beer is scheduled to be on tap at the brewery later this year.
Well we did it! Two brewery bus tours in the same year. Those who joined on the trip were given the opportunity to visit some of Philly's best craft breweries all in one day. Our first stop was the new Imperial Yeast facility in Northeast Philly. Macro Marquez gave us tour of Imperial Yeast and the new operations. Macro explained all of the different strains cultured at this location and that it serves breweries east of the Mississippi River. Our next stop was the Human Robot Brewery. This brewery offered a good variety of traditional beer styles. The Czech pilsner and the Irish dry stout were very tasty, and yes...we had to try the Milktube shooters. The gang had a choice of several other facilities in the area to visit. In addition to Human Robot, other facilities at this stop included:
Our second stop was a short trip to the new Other Half Brewery. The original brewery is based in Brooklyn NY, but they've recently expanded operations to Philly and other locations. There was a wide selection of mainly NEIPA style beers. It was interesting to taste how much hops can vary the flavor in a single style. The final stop was at the Triple Bottom Brewery. From here, the gang spread out in all directions, as there was a number of great stops to visit in short walking distance. Destinations in this location included:
The event was +7 hours of nonstop craft beer sampling and club member camaraderie. All who attended had a great time, and as always...we discussed possibilities for the next trip.
The generous people at Kennett Collaborative invited the BOMB to pour member brewed beers and share brewing knowledge at the 2022 Kennett Brewfest in beautiful Kennett Square, PA. Hurricane Ian didn't stop festival goers, +80 breweries or the BOMB from showing up and having a great time. The weather was wet but the brews were wetter and this was one of most successful showings for our club. At noon, we were greeted by waves of VIP attendees eager to get first dibs on special brews being offered by brewers. Attendees sipping select libations had a chance to mingle with both commercial and BOMB brewers, discussing the finer nuances of the creation process. At 1:30p, the vibe changed a bit as the gate opened for general admission attendees to gain access to the festival grounds. They had been standing in long lines wrapped around the festival grounds, peering through the fences at what the VIPs were enjoying for the last hour and a half...and they were ready to take the festival to the next level. And we were ready...
In addition to bringing beer to the festival...we brewed at the festival! That's right...Rich Saprano brought gear to the festival and was brewing a Marzen on site. By 3:30p, kegs were getting kicked. We packed up for the day with all of the kegs empty and having to turn away people who were returning for more. Next event Winterfest 2023! |
