Well we did it! Two brewery bus tours in the same year. Those who joined on the trip were given the opportunity to visit some of Philly's best craft breweries all in one day. Our first stop was the new Imperial Yeast facility in Northeast Philly. Macro Marquez gave us tour of Imperial Yeast and the new operations. Macro explained all of the different strains cultured at this location and that it serves breweries east of the Mississippi River. Our next stop was the Human Robot Brewery. This brewery offered a good variety of traditional beer styles. The Czech pilsner and the Irish dry stout were very tasty, and yes...we had to try the Milktube shooters. The gang had a choice of several other facilities in the area to visit. In addition to Human Robot, other facilities at this stop included:
Our second stop was a short trip to the new Other Half Brewery. The original brewery is based in Brooklyn NY, but they've recently expanded operations to Philly and other locations. There was a wide selection of mainly NEIPA style beers. It was interesting to taste how much hops can vary the flavor in a single style. The final stop was at the Triple Bottom Brewery. From here, the gang spread out in all directions, as there was a number of great stops to visit in short walking distance. Destinations in this location included:
The event was +7 hours of nonstop craft beer sampling and club member camaraderie. All who attended had a great time, and as always...we discussed possibilities for the next trip.
![]() The generous people at Kennett Collaborative invited the BOMB to pour member brewed beers and share brewing knowledge at the 2022 Kennett Brewfest in beautiful Kennett Square, PA. Hurricane Ian didn't stop festival goers, +80 breweries or the BOMB from showing up and having a great time. The weather was wet but the brews were wetter and this was one of most successful showings for our club. At noon, we were greeted by waves of VIP attendees eager to get first dibs on special brews being offered by brewers. Attendees sipping select libations had a chance to mingle with both commercial and BOMB brewers, discussing the finer nuances of the creation process. At 1:30p, the vibe changed a bit as the gate opened for general admission attendees to gain access to the festival grounds. They had been standing in long lines wrapped around the festival grounds, peering through the fences at what the VIPs were enjoying for the last hour and a half...and they were ready to take the festival to the next level. And we were ready...
In addition to bringing beer to the festival...we brewed at the festival! That's right...Rich Saprano brought gear to the festival and was brewing a Marzen on site. ![]() By 3:30p, kegs were getting kicked. We packed up for the day with all of the kegs empty and having to turn away people who were returning for more. Next event Winterfest 2023! ![]() Alex Crowe presented on the topic of brewing water at the September BOMB meeting. The topics covered included water chemistry and the impacts on wort and beer flavor. The complete presentation will be posted to the BOMB YouTube channel. ![]() The second round of the 2022 BOMBing Run competition further tightened the pack of the four front runners. Round 2 was all about Philly Sour yeast and brewer's choice of style. Each brewer put their best beer forward and the members selected the winner of Round 2. The winners for this run were as follows: 1st Place - Jake Wilson 2nd Place - Any Poole/John Ponte 3rd Place Tie - Alex Crowe & Kevin Harkness Thanks to our sponsors Five Star Chemicals and Imperial Yeast for the prizes handed out to the winners. View the round full results and standings of all brewers via the link below. Keystone Homebrew Supply in Montgomeryville, PA will be hosted its annual Club Barrel Brew Championship on Saturday July 23rd. The BOMB placed 2nd in the last competition with its entry Black Betty porter. This year's barrel team is looking to bring home top prize. Pictured above is this year's team of Adam Ritter, Dave Bill, Alex Crowe, Ed Nelling & Sean Melody A second brew session was conducted to brew the remaining volume needed to fill the barrel on the following Saturday. ![]() The BOMB took this year's HomeBrewCon by storm! This success was due to all of the club members who pitched in to attend the conference and/or brew for the event. Huge support from our friends at Lallemand Brewing pushed this year's conference presence to a whole new level. The BOMB left a mark on attendees and turned heads not only at our awesome "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" themed booth on Club Night, but at the Lallemand booth with beer brewed by our members. ![]() BOMBers showed the home brewer world that we go the extra mile with anything we do. A special thanks to the following members who supplied the BOMB presence at the conference and brought our booth to life:

Judges for the event included, Sylvie Van Zandycke, Tobias Fischborn, & Didier Theodore from Lallemand and Dr. Matthew Farber from the University of the Sciences. The competition winners were:
Molly Browning of Lallemand conducted an interactive sensory presentation on "off flavors" in beer. Attendees had a chance to taste samples with off flavors to get first hand experience when they encounter them in a beer. The prevention is available on the BOMB YouTube channel.
