The BOMB was well represented at the Lansdale Beer Fest on June 24th. Jake Wilson, Rich Sparano & Mike Herman poured their beers to give fest-goers a taste of what the BOMB is brewing. The 3 reported a strong showing at the festival and steady visits to the BOMB tent.
We were wet, damp, brewin' and chillin' all at this year's Keystone Barrel Championship brew day. This year's BOMB Barrel crew is Rich Sparano, Kevin Harkness, Mike Duprez, Adam Ritter, Alex Crowe and Dave Bill. Last year's BOMB Barrel Team placed 2nd in what turned out to be stiff competition, but year we are back and ready to compete for the top prize. The event is comprised of homebrew clubs from around the area. Teams must brew their beer on site and then age it in a Dad's Hat Rye Whiskey barrel provided to the clubs by Keystone Homebrew Supply. Each team then brings a keg of their barrel aged beer to Keystone for the main event the following year. The beer is evaluated by a panel of celebrity judges, who crown the winner of the competition. The BOMB thanks BYOB Homebrew Supplies in Havertown, PA who helped offset our cost of the competition. If you missed last night's meeting...you missed a lot. A few pics from the world premeire of DELCO BEER TALK at the Sterling Pig Brewery. Special thanks to Alex Crowe, Matt Farber, Brian McConnell, Christopher Devito and Tim Downey for helping make this event the success it was. Last night the 2023 BOMBing run competitors submitted their British Strong Ale entries to their fellow BOMBers for judging. 12 brewers went head to head in the first round of this year's BOMBing Run competition in their battle for the crown of Top BOMB Brewer. The results are in and as follows:
1st Place - Paul Ward/Dan Cooper/Brent Mattingly/Vic Orlando 2nd Place - Mike Duprez 3rd Place - Brian Weir/Todd Eaton Thanks to our sponsors The Sterling Pig Brewery, Imperial Yeast, Five Star Chemicals and Brew Your Own Beer for donations and discounts for our competitors! The results and full scoreboard can be found on the 2023 BOMBing Run page. The What's Brewing PA show, on NBC Sports Philadelphia, covered the Keystone Barrel Championship on last night's episode. The BOMB gets plenty of coverage and is announced at the 2nd place winner with a barrel aged Belgian Strong ale entry. The BOMB 2022 Keystone Barrel Competition team placed 2nd in last night's judging. The barrel-aged Belgian dark strong ale was a crowd (and judges') favorite. We were told the difference between 1st and 2nd place was very close. Congrats to Adam Ritter, Alex Crowe, Ed Nelling, Sean P. Mellody and Dave Bill. The event is to be featured in the next episode of What's Brewing PA to be aired on Saturday April 8th. Our BOMB Competes page lists member award winners and upcoming competitions. Visit often for the latest information.
New BOMB merch has just hit the store. In addition to tasting glasses and club patches, we've added all metal BOMB signs, beer coasters and magnets. Everything you need to class up your taproom or beer cave! The first BOMB Excursion of 2023 happened yesterday at Stampede Barbecue and Brewery in Mohnton PA. BOMB Homebrew Club members were given a tour of the brewery by head brewer Evan Detweiler. He discussed how the brewery operates on wood fire alone as a heat source. He also discussed how he strives to give customers an experience of what it might have been like to drink at an 19th century saloon in PA. Stampede sources all of their malt from Deer Creek Malthouse in Glen Mills and their offerings include beers ranging from a bright Kolsch to a porter. In addition, they ferment their own hard cider...naturally the apple juice is sourced from a local orchard. In addition to house beers brewed on site, they serve spirits and mead, all sourced from PA distilleries and a local meadery. |
